June 2008 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

We will be attending Bernina University again in July and look forward to learning about Bernina’s new top of the line machine that will be introduced at the event.  The new 830 will have 72 newly patented features including the longest free-arm of any domestic sewing machine!  Can you believe it?  We can. 

Bernina is offering a Bernina University for its loyal consumers this year.  It is limited to the first 1,000 people that sign up.  It will be held at the Hyatt Regency - Crown Center in Kansas City on July 21-22, 2008.  You may register at www.Bernina8series.com.  There will be special presentations by Alex Anderson, Ricky Timms and Linda Lee.  Attendees will also see highlights of the Bernina Fashion Show and will be able to meet celebrities and Bernina staff, including Hanspeter Ueltschi, the 4th generation owner and CEO of Bernina.  The best part…..the cost to attend the event will only be $149 per person.  This promises to be an amazing opportunity for local sewers to see how Bernina throws a party!

On Friday, June 27th, we will be offering a really cool embroidery designs class that will be taught by instructors from Dakota Collectibles.  See the details on Page 4 of this newsletter. 

Everyone is invited to come to meet Suzanne Marshall at a book signing at 5:00 pm on June 12th in our store.  Refreshments will be served.  Suzanne is a world renowned quilter that focuses on hand appliqué.  See our website for more details.

Beginning Thread Painting:

Thursday, July 24.  1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.   
Fee: $25.00
Learn decorative free motion thread painting. This is a process class, not a project class. Students will practice different approaches to thread painting and the advantages and disadvantages of the many stabilizers on the market and which to use for a project. Supplies from supply list required.

Bernina Club:

Thursday's June 19 and August 28.  9:00 am to 10:00 am.  No Club meeting in July due to Bernina University.

Bernina Version 5 Software Society:

Required: Version 5 Software and laptop. This is a lettering basics class.

Composite Cloth:

Tuesday, July 29. 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  
Fee: $25.00
Learn to enhance fabric with layers of intricate surface designs. The possibilities are limited only by the imagination. The finished fabric is color-fast for use in other projects or it can stand alone as a work of art in itself. Supplies from supply list required.

Crazy Patch Jacket:

Tuesdays, August 5, 12, and 19.  1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  
Fee: $30.00
When you see this darling jacket in our store, you will definitely want one for yourself!  This jacket uses different fabric types as well as decorative stitching and embellishing. You will receive compliments each time you wear it!

Dazzling Beaded Wall Hanging:

Mondays, July 21 and 28.  10 am to 1:00 pm.  
Fee: $25.00
This three dimensional quilt is a knock-out.  Learn Sharon’s dazzling tricks to embellish your quilt into a stunning work!

Embroidered Baby Quilt:

Mondays, July 7, 14, and 21.  1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  
Fee: $20.00
If you have never embroidered and want to try we will provide machines to make this great baby gift.

Fabric Dyeing:
Instructor - Suzanne Sanders-Tourtelot
Wednesday, July 2 or Saturday, July 12.   10:00 am to 3:00 pm.   
Fee: $35.00
Learn to hand dye cotton fabric with Fiber Reactive Dyes.  Learn a variety of techniques including bumaki, salting, and low-water immersion. Starter kits and PFD fabric available at Sew in Heaven. Class will be held at Suzanne’s studio (1 mile from Sew in Heaven). There is a limit of 4 persons per class.

Flip Flop Coasters:

Wednesday, July 23. 10:00 am to 12 noon.
Fee: $5.00
This is a darling gift idea that uses your scraps and helps you learn in the hoop techniques. This will be a demonstration class.

Free Motion Quilting:
Instructor - Suzanne Sanders-Tourtelot
Thursday, June 26.  1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  
Fee: $25.00
If you are new to free motion, or wanting to improve your skills, we recommend this class.  Movement in free motion quilting is the key!  Suzanne teaches this better than anyone.  Let a pro help you.

Hoochy Mama Blocks:

Tuesdays, Sept. 16 and 23. 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  
Fee: $25.00
With a name like this, you will want to be a hoochy mama! These quilt blocks require less cutting and have a funky appeal to the young at heart and less traditional quilters.

Kids Sewing Class:

Wednesday, July 9 or Thursday July 10.   10:00 am to 2:00 pm. 
Fee: $10.00
This class is for anyone wanting to learn basic sewing skills. We will have fun and make a monogrammed pillow case or gum drop pillow for your room.  Be cool.  Learn to sew!

My Label Tunic:
Instructor - Suzie Bell
Tuesdays, July 15 and 22.  10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Fee: $10.00
Required: My Label Software. This is a fitting class to qualify the tunic in the software. We will make the tunic and make adjustments necessary so that you can make perfectly fitted garments and let your creative juices flow!

New York Beauty:

Mondays, August 4 & 11.  10:00 to 12 noon.   
Fee: $20.00
This is a gorgeous paper pieced quilt that only looks difficult.  Let Sharon show you how easy paper piecing really is.  Come see our sample in the store!

Valley Girl Quilt:

Fabulous on point jagged edge quilt and taught by the designer herself – what more do you need?

This is the class that gets you beyond basic smocking and teaches you the tricks to making the adorable ducks, trucks, and even lettering! You will be amazed at how easy it really is. Come see our samples.

Summer Wine Block of the Month:

Requirements: Summer (book) by Jenny Haskins, embroidery machine and software.

Renee is the “queen of quilted fabric.”  This is your opportunity to make some stylish bags for yourself or for gifts. Renee will lead you through this process so you will have professional results and fun in the same process!

THE YARN CORNER

Take a minute to look at the fabulous sock yarn Opal – it creates its own design and you just knit – amazing. You will want to make several pairs of socks with it. Also new is JoJoland yarn in a fingering weight (great for socks and lace work) or DK weight. The colors are amazing and we will be using this yarn for the hat/scarf class. You will love working with it!

We are continuing to bring in knitted samples, clever accessories and great new books so take a minute to look in the “corner”!

Remember – If it’s Friday – we must be knitting!

Sampler Afghan:
Instructors - Twyla Pease & Carol Dilley  
 Second Friday of each month, beginning Sept. 12.  1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.   
Fee:  $75.00         
Join us each month as we start knitting a block a month afghan. We will start out with basic knitting skills and then progress to harder blocks as the months go by. You will only need to complete 1 to 2 blocks per month. There is even a crocheted border so we will be teaching crochet stitches as well. Yarn kits must be ordered before the first class.

Socks: 
Instructor - Carol Dilley
Fridays, July 11, 18, 25 and August 1. 10:00 am –12:00 noon     
Fee:  $25.00
Nothing feels better on your feet than a pair of hand knitted socks. Use our fabulous Opal yarn that creates its own unique pattern and learn to knit socks like a pro. Carol will guide you through the process from cuff to toe.

Sock 2fers:
Instructor - Carol Dilley
Fridays, August 8, 15, 22, and 29 10:00 pm – 12:00 noon.     
Fee:  $30.00
If you have already knitted one pair of socks, then try knitting two socks at once, using circular needles!
Carol will show you the trick behind the technique and help you get through that tricky heel area.

Basic Knitting:

Mondays,  June 23, 30, and July 7 or Tuesdays, August 5, 12, and 19.  10:00 to 12 noon
Fee: $15.00
Be involved in one of the hottest crazes that have hit the country! Learn the basics of knitting. You will be amazed at how easy it really is.

Sit and Knit: Knit Club
First Fridays of each month, beginning July 11 (because of the holiday), then August 1. 1:00 to 3 pm
Fee: FREE!!!
Bring your knitting projects, knit, share ideas, visit, and learn from each other. Share the joy of knitting.

Entrelac Hat/Scarf:
Instructor – Twyla Pease
Fridays, July 18, 25, August 8 and 15. 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm 
Fee: $20.00
Learn a new technique that only looks hard to create a stocking hat, tam or scarf. Other knitters will wonder how you did that!

Class Policy

• Class fee is due at the time you register. If you must cancel, we must be notified 1 week prior to class date. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• If the class does not fill or if we cancel the class, you will receive a full refund or store credit, your choice.
• Supplies are needed for almost all classes. The class fee covers instruction only. You are responsible for picking up your supply list and having all your supplies ready prior to the beginning of class.
• Copyright law requires that each student purchases his or her own book or pattern required for the class.
